Earlier on it references the household of Abraham, and later is used as a reference to Muhammad's household. In Surah 33:Verse 33, which says, "God simply wishes to take the <a href="http://referenceworks.brillonline.com.proxy.lib.umich.edu/entries/encyclopaedia-of-the-quran/pollution-DUM_00453">pollution</a> from you, O people of the house and to purify you thoroughly" Some scholars argue that the "people of the house" is used to represent the entire Islamic community.
