BARA’AH براءة.

“Immunity, or security.” A title given to the ixth Chapter of the Qur’an called also Suratu ‘l-Taubah, “The Chapter of repentance.” It is remarkable as being the only Surah without the introductory form, “In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate”. Various reasons are assigned for this omission. Some commentators say that the prayer of mercy is not placed at the head of a Chapter which speaks chiefly of God’s wrath.
